Basketball Team To Take on Dutchtown in Rare Contest

The Catholic Basketball team will take on district rivals, Dutchtown, at home in a rare contest on Thursday, Jan. 28. Varsity tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. with freshmen (5 p.m.) and junior varsity (6 p.m.) on the docket as well.

Students are invited to come out early for pizza and bean bag toss games beginning at 5 p.m. in the courtyard.  Entertainment will be provided by DJ SwampSniper.

The Bears enter the 5-5A matchup with a 15-8 overall and 0-3 district record against the visiting Dutchtown Griffins.  The Griffins have struggled this season and comes in with a 8-15 overall and 0-3 district record. Signature wins for the Griffins this season are against Woodlawn, Port Allen and Holy Cross.

To win tonight’s game coach Mark Cascio feels his team must hit the boards and control the tempo.  “Dutchtown’s philosophy is to slow the game down and possess the ball and wait for their shot.  We must rebound well and limit the length of their possessions.  On our end we must dictate the pace of the game and attack the zone when we have the basketball.  We have the opportunity to get back in the win column if we can accomplish those things,” said Cascio.
