Bears Bounce Back with Two More Wins
After the Bears’ 10-game winning streak came to a halt at McKinley, it was important to refocus quickly with tough district matchups ahead of them.
Last Tuesday, CHS took on district rival St. Amant in a game that would decide who ended the night in the top spot in District 5-5A. The Bears built an early 15-3 lead, but the visiting Gators stormed back using their size to cut the lead to just one at the end of the first quarter. That’s as close as St. Amant would get though as CHS used their deadly three point shooting to outscore the Gators 72-40 over the final three quarters. The Bears made 17 of 33 three-point attempts to get a big 89-56 district victory over the Gators. Senior Kentrell Garnett led the way with 30 points, including seven three-pointers of his own.
On Friday, the team honored six incredible seniors for their contributions to the program over the last four years. Kentrell Garnett, London Scott, Caleb Warner, Aaron Brock, Daniel Barfield, and Peyton Worley were all recognized before the game against Woodlawn.
“All six of these guys has made an impact on this program. They left it better than they found it for sure,” said head coach Mark Cascio.
As for the game, the Bears used disruptive defense that led to easy opportunities on offense to build a 36-14 halftime advantage. CHS kept up the defensive pressure in the second half forcing 17 total turnovers from the Panthers in a 76-40 victory.
The Bears are now 29-3 on the season with two games remaining. This week, CHS will play at Dutchtown to complete district play before traveling to U-High to take on the Cubs on Thursday.
