Bears Move To 5-0 As They Head For District Play

The Bears advanced to 5-0 in their final non-district game with a victory over Teurlings Catholic of Lafayette. The Rebels entered the game as the #4 ranked team in Class 4A and advanced to the Division II semifinals last season. The Bears dispatched the Rebels with a dominating second half on their way to a 31-14 win.

Players of the Game for the Bears:

OFFENSE: Ben Miles played fullback, H back, tailback, receiver and even some quarterback in his team’s win. Miles rushed for 53 yards and scored a touchdown from the quarterback position.

DEFENSE: Diego Carrera picked up four solo and four assist versus the Rebels. Carrera is a mainstay at nose tackle and his energy is contagious.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Parker Fontenot has been a steady and consistent performer the last two years. On Friday, #18 converted his four PATs and made his lone field goal try.

Catholic begins district play this Friday, October 7, on the road in Gonzales as they face East Ascension. The Spartans enter the contest with an 0-4 record, but sport many college recruits on their squad. Darnell Lee is in his first year as head coach at EA after serving as defensive coordinator last year.

CHS and EA have one common opponent in Zachary, with the Spartans losing that contest 37-31, a week after the Bears dispatched Zachary, 37-3.

Kickoff at Gonzales Primary School is set for 7 P.M. Friday night. Don’t forget, if you can’t make the game, you can watch all the action on the BBN live stream at catholichigh.org, or listen to the call on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge.
