Bears Run The Table – Win District Title
It was a historic night this past Friday, as the CHS football team clinched the 5-5A district title and completed the sixth undefeated season in school history. The Bears lit up the scoreboard early and often on their way to a dominating 70-34 victory at Dutchtown.
The CHS offense put on a show, racking up 768 total yards against the Griffins. Eight different Bears scored touchdowns on the night. Senior quarterback Jackson Thomas led the way completing 26 of his 32 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns. The ground game was also unstoppable, gaining 426 yards and included two 100-yard rushers, senior Josh Parker and junior Landon O’Connor. Senior Jaelen Toaston led all receivers with eight catches for 149 yards and a score. Junior George Hart contributed two scores of his own.
With the win, the Bears will be the number two overall seed in the playoffs and will receive a first round bye. The team will host the winner of the St. Paul’s and Holy Cross matchup on Friday, November 22.
Statistically, the 10-0 Bears had an incredible regular season. Twenty different players scored touchdowns, a school record. Quarterback Jackson Thomas completed 71% of his passes on the season for 1703 yards. Thomas tossed 20 touchdown passes with just one interception. He also rushed for 316 yards and six scores. Senior running back Josh Parker led the Bears rushing attack gaining 956 yards on 94 carries. Parker averaged over 10 yards per carry and found the end zone 11 times. Senior Jaelen Toaston led all receivers with 27 catches for 508 yards. Both Toaston and senior Braelen Morgan caught seven touchdowns.
