Bears Suffer First Loss Of Season
The Bears suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the University High Cubs, 34-6. The loss dropped the Bears to 2-1 on the young season.
CHS could not get things going in any of the three phases versus the Cubs. Senior running back Beau Griffon scored the only touchdown of the game for CHS, reaching paydirt on a one-yard plunge in the second half. Blake Davis won his third consecutive Special Teams Player of the Week award with an outstanding 54 yards per punt effort. Elijah Reames was named Defensive Player of the Week after his four tackles for loss performance against U High. Reames had seven solo tackles in the game. There was no Offensive Player of the Week award for game three.
The Bears are back in action on Friday, September 22, against St. Thomas More. The Cougars are the #1 ranked team in the state in Class 4A. The Bears have been victorious over STM the last two years. STM head coach Jim Hightower, will be going for his 400th career victory on Friday night. Hightower is the second all-time winningest coach in Louisiana high school history. CHS legend Dale Weiner, was an assistant to Hightower in the late 1970s at Catholic-Pointe Coupee. Weiner is seventh on the all-time list.
The game will be the first home contest for the Bears, returning to the friendly confines of Olympia Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 PM.
