The Big Orange Wave scored 53 points in their second place effort at the Metro Championships held last Saturday morning at Highland Road Park. The Wave was led by Collin Hedges, who matched his personal best for three miles at Highland with a 15:55 clocking. Hedges finished fifth overall in the Metro meet. Ben Langley finished ninth; Chris Cuntz placed 12th with a Highland best of 16:19; Brian Miller came in 15th; and Luke Bella completed the top five for CHS with a 17th place finish. Josh Durnin, Sean Dunn, and Jack Maddox set personal bests for three miles at Highland in the Metro varsity race.
The junior high Wave crushed the competition with a 26-point team score. Joseph Ellis, second; Owen Simon, third; Zach Morgan, fifth; Alex Leonard, sixth; and Baily Faulk, tenth, comprised the top five for Catholic High. Simon, Morgan, Leonard, Walter Herasymiuk, Darby Buras, Carson Giambrone and Luke Fuselier all set personal bests for two miles in the junior high Metro race. Eli Barbin ran 18:18 and was the first Bear to hit the wire in the Metro Open event.
The Wave will travel to Natchitoches to run in the Pre-State Meet on the campus of Northwestern State University on Saturday, Oct. 28. It is an excellent opportunity for the squad to run on the same course that will host the state championship in three weeks. The horn sounds at 10:15 a.m. to start the boys’ varsity race.
