Big Orange Wave Places Sixth At State Meet
The Big Orange Wave wrapped up its season on Tuesday, Nov. 15, with a sixth place finish in the Class 5A state championship meet in Natchitoches. The Wave competed in a field of 170+ runners in the three mile race hosted by Northwestern State University.
Thomas Laville, the Wave’s number one runner this season, finished 17th overall in a time of 16:29. The squad’s number two, Caleb Dugas, was not far behind his senior counterpart, clocking a 16:33, for a 22nd place finish. Peter Laville (17:04), Harold Miller (17:06) and Collin Hedges (17:12) rounded out the top five scorers for Catholic. James Lalonde (17:29) and Collin Sarrazin (18:03) finished sixth and seventh respectively for the Black and Orange.
The Bears had a team score of 162 points and were the highest placing Baton Rouge area school and the second highest finishing team from its region.
“We congratulate St. Paul’s on a fine season and winning a state championship,” said Coach Pete Boudreaux. “I congratulate our guys, too, on a gallant effort on Tuesday. The course has a number of turns and is historically slow, but the guys battled through it and put forth their best effort. We improved as a team and they should be commended for the great work they put in this season. Our assistant coaches Adam MacDowell and Nic Minvielle were outstanding and are a huge reason we have a great cross country program here at Catholic High.”
Many members of the Wave will be seen again in January, when the indoor track season gets underway.
