Big Orange Wave Places Third At SJA Invitational
The Big Orange Wave scored 95 points to place third on Saturday, Oct. 1, in the SJA Invitational at Highland Road Park. The “thinlies” defeated every 5A team in the race with the exception of St. Paul’s, the meet winner. Every CHS runner set a personal record in their run on Saturday. The SJA Invitational is one of the largest cross country meets in the state every year with over 1,300 participants in both boys and girls’ events.
Thomas Laville finished 7th overall with a swift time of 15:44. Fellow senior Caleb Dugas was not far behind in 14th place in 15:56. Dugas nipped 15th place finisher James Lalonde at the wire (15:58). Rounding out the top five for the Wave were Collin Hedges (16:27) and Collin Sarrazin (16:29).
In the junior high race, the Bears finished third with 61 points. Ben Langley 4th overall in 11:12 for the two mile run. Chris Cuntz was right behind in 11:13, good enough for 5th. Luke Bella finished 10th, Walker Ridge was 13th and Sean Dunn rounded out the top five in 30th place.
In the Open Division 3 mile competition, Eric Anderson was the top Bear, stopping the watch in 17:18.
“Every runner set a personal record on Saturday,” said Coach Pete Boudreaux. “The course played fast and the guys competed extremely hard. It was great to see all of the hard work that we invested come to fruition on Saturday.”
The Wave will take the course again on Saturday at Highland Road Park as they host the Catholic High Invitational. The first race kicks off at 8:30 p.m. and a large field is expected.
