Big Orange Wave Preps for Regional Meet
The 5A cross country State Championship will be decided in two weeks at Norhwestern State University in Natchitoches. Coach Pete Boudreaux is hoping that last Saturday’s Pre-State Meet is a prelude to the race on Nov. 13. The Big Orange Wave dominated the competition of 18 teams, scored 36 points and mastered tjhe course at NSU. The team competed on the same course that will host the 5A state championship in two weeks.
Collin Hedges was the overall winner of the meet with a time just over 16 minutes. Chris Cuntz, Ben Langley and Peter Kelly all finished in the top nine overall. Josh Durnin rounded out the top five for CHS with a 13th place finish. Times on the NSU course are always slower because the race is run at just over three miles.
The Wave will compete for the final time before the state meet on Saturday, November 4, at Highland Road Park. The team will run in the 5A Regional Meet and looks to qualify for state with a great race. The top eight teams will qualify for state. St. Paul’s will be the main competitor for Catholic High on Saturday. Other teams expected to make a run for the top spots are Mandeville, Fontainebleau, Zachary, Walker, Denham Springs and Dutchown. The Regional meet gets underway at 9 a.m.
