Big Orange Wave To Compete in State Championship
The Big Orange Wave finished second in the Metro Championships on Monday, November 9 at Highland Road Park. The Bears scored 79 points and got an individual title from senior Jeffrey Kelley. Kelley won his second individual Metro Championship by running 15:22 in a field of more than 100 competitors. Kelley won the Metro as a sophomore in 2013.
Thomas Laville (12th overall – 16:25), Peter Laville (20th – personal best of 16:48), Caleb Dugas (22nd – 16:50) and Andre Aguillard (24th – 16:58) rounded out the top five for CHS. Harold Miller (16:59), Robert Peek (17:13), Josh Durnin (17:18), James Lalonde (17:27), Carter Rome (17:44) and Brian Miller (17:51) all set personal bests at the Metro competition.
The Bears will compete in the Class 5A State Championships on Wednesday, November 18 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. The starter’s pistol sends the runners off at 2:30 p.m. Kelley, David Toups, Thomas Laville, Peter Laville, Caleb Dugas, Andre Aguillard and John Donner will be the seven runners that veteran coach Pete Boudreaux sends out to represent the Big Orange Wave at State.
Boudreaux has led his cross country squads to sixteen State Championships and 10 runner-up finishes at the state meet. The Hall of Fame coach is optimistic that Kelley can become the 14th overall individual State Champion in Catholic High history.
