Brothers of the Sacred Heart Recognized Before Playoff Game
Before this past weekí´s playoff game against Brother Martin, the Brothers of the Sacred Heart from both schools were recognized on the field.
Being that both Catholic High and Brother Martin are schools of the Brother of the Sacred Heart, made that game a historic one. After Hurricane Katrina, CHS hosted Brother Martin on our campus in Baton Rouge where its students were able to finish the school year. With both schools being literally brothers, facing each other on the football field in an elimination game was nothing short of íîsibling rivalry.í´
Both teams played exceptionally well but Brother Martin ended up on top 25-23, ending the football season for CHS.
The Bears started strong with a 74-yard touchdown return by LSU commit Derrius Guice, but then the Crusaders took a 13-7 lead at halftime. Brother Martin appeared to have the win in-the-bag at 25-7 with 10 minutes left in the game when the Bears began to fight back. Clyde Edwards-Helaire began the rally with a 24-yard touchdown followed by a 42-yard field goal by LSU commit Jack Gonsoulin bringing the score to 25-17 with four minutes left in the game.
Guice scored on the final play of the game but was stopped on the two-point conversion try ending the game with Brother Martin advancing in playoffs.
The Bears ended the season 9-2, undefeated in District play and the 2014 LHSAA Division I District Champions.
