Catholic Overpowers East Ascension with Big Plays, Second-half Surge
The Catholic Bears went into halftime down 3-0 to undefeated East Ascension last Friday on the road in Gonzales. The Bears turned the ball over three times, missed a field goal, and were forced to punt twince in the first two quarters of play. The Bears responded to Coach Gabe Fertitta’s challenge at halftime with a thirty-five point onslaught in the second half.
Catholic’s big play barrage in the final two stanzas left the #3 ranked Spartans reeling. Braelen Morgan scored three touchdowns to pace the CHS offense. Josh Parker and Jake Outlaw had long runs to demoralize EA. A suffocating defense kept the Spartan offense out of the endzone on Friday night, a huge accomplishment considering that EA came into the week right contest averaging close to forty points a game. Elijah Reames led the defense with four sacks.
The Bears, now the #3 ranked team in the state according to the latest LSWA 5A poll, will host Dutchtown this Friday at Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:05pm. Catholic will celebrate Homecoming and honor four men with their induction into the Grizzly Greats. Arrive early as a large crowd is expected.
