CHS Alumnus Nick Coomes ’14 Joins LSU Baseball Program
CHS alumnus Nick Coomes ’14 will join the LSU baseball program for the 2015-2016 season. Coomes committed to LSU head coach Paul Mainieri on Wednesday, November 4 while taking in action of the Fall World Series at Alex Box Stadium.
Coomes, a rising sophomore, was the leading hitter in the fall for LSU-Eunice, where he started in 2015 at third base and logged innings at catcher for the junior college National Champions. The former Bear hit .299 with five home runs and 39 RBI for LSU-E alongside former Catholic High players Ben Braymer (a current Auburn Tiger), Jordan Romero (a current LSU Tiger) and Clay Moffitt (current LSU-Eunice pitcher).
Coomes was an All-State infielder as a junior for the Bears’ 5A state championship team and an All-State catcher for the Bears’ quarterfinal team in his senior season. Coomes hit over .400 both seasons for head coach Brad Bass. “Nick will have an opportunity to start at third base for LSU in 2017. He also has the physical tools to play catcher in the SEC. Nick is a tremendous competitor and brings a football mentality to the baseball field. He plays the game the right way and has a great work ethic. It is great for Nick, LSU and, of course, Catholic High,” said Bass.
