CHS Basketball: Black & Orange Train Rolls In
Tournament organizers and fans of the Gold Dome Classic definitely took note of the Black and Orange train that hit St. Amant last week. The Bears went 3-0 in the Classic and left a dominating mark on the tournament, defeating its opponents by over one-hundred points combined.
The Bears opened the tourney with a 103-66 victory against 5A East St. John. It was the first time since 1977 that a Catholic High team topped the century mark on the hardwood. The Bears connected on a whopping NINETEEN three pointers versus the Wildcats. Kentrell Garnett and Collin Holloway each scored 23 for the Bears with Ian Cavan chipping in 15.
Next in the CHS Gold Dome path was an athletic Terrebonne team. The Bears dispatched the Tigers, 61-36, with Garnett (13) and Holloway (10) leading the path again.
In the tourney finale, the Bears played suffocating defense, limiting Sulphur to less than ten points per quarter in the 70-27 win. Garnett almost outscored the Tornado team with 23 points. Caleb Warner added 12 points, Holloway scored 11, and Connor Shamlin hit double digits with 10 points.
The Bears will face University High on Thursday night in the Catholic High gym. The freshmen team gets the ball rolling at 5pm with the junior varsity to follow. Varsity action is expected to tip off at 7pm. The Bears come into the contest against the Division II power U High Cubs with a 7-2 record.
