CHS Community Raises $1,750 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital
During the week of September 21, the Catholic High School community showed their support for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by wearing gold for the #showyourgold media campaign, by donating money at the football game and by participating in the St. Jude Walk on September 26. Efforts were led by faculty members Jennifer Thibodeaux and Sarah Fox, as well as the CHS Cheerleaders and members of the Science Club.
Approximately $1,300 was collected at the CHS vs. St. Thomas More football game on September 25 and $450 was collected at the St. Jude Walk on Saturday, September 26. A check totaling $1,750 was presented to Katie Casanova, Regional Event Specialist for ALSAC/ St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mrs. Thibodeaux has served as team captain for Team Kirklin for the St. Jude Walk for the last three years. Team Kirklin was created in 2012 to honor alumnus Kirklin Roberts, who sadly passed away in November 2014. This year, Team Kirklin collected over $3,300 in online donations, a large part coming from the Catholic High School community.
íÍKirklin was bigger than life and had an obvious impact on those around him. He kept a brave face during the worst of times. He was such an inspiration that I hope to continue his legacy by continuing to raise awareness about this disease. I deeply appreciate the generosity of the Catholic High School community,íñ said Thibodeaux. íÍI hope that we can continue to build support for others in our CHS family who have suffered from childhood cancer.íñ
