CHS Counselors Participate in SACAC Legislative Day
On March 28, CHS College Counselors, Jennifer Thibodeaux and Sherry Brouillette, participated in Legislative Day, which is sponsored by the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling. They, along with other SACAC members, sat in on legislative committee hearings at the Louisiana State Capitol and later that afternoon met with panelist speakers to discuss education policy that impacts college access for high school students. Panelist speakers included Donald Songy who serves as the Education Policy Adviser for the Office of the Governor, Senator Michael Walsworth from the TOPS Task Force and Senate Education Committee, Speaker Pro Tempre Representative Walt Leger from the House Education Committee, Representative Polly Thomas from the House Education Committee, Lupe Lamadrid from the Board of Regents, Deborah Paul (Director of Scholarships and Grants) from LOSFA and Gus Wales (Director of Public Information and Communications) from LOSFA.
Other SACAC members participating in the program included high school counselors from Ben Franklin, Mount Carmel, Rummel and Ascension Episcopal, as well as, college admissions personnel from Louisiana Tech, LSU, Tulane and the community-based organization, Baton Rouge Youth Coalition.
