CHS, EBR Sheriff’s Office and SWAT Team To Hold Safety Drill
Catholic High School, in coordination with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriffí´s Office and SWAT Team, will hold a Safety Drill on Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 8 a.m. to noon. Staged on CHSí´s campus and at Westmoreland, the drill will consist of three or four scenario emergency situations including an active shooter and an intruder on campus.
Drills will commence at 9 a.m. and will include emergency responders, EMS, police officers and SWAT Team officials in full gear. Sirens and lights will also be used to simulate a real emergency. There is also a possibility for firearms to be used however, it will be simulated gunshots. CHS officials and 25 participating students will also be a part of the drill.
The purpose of the drills is to develop a safety plan for Catholic High and to open a line of communication between the school and the Sheriffí´s Office. It also allows first responders to become familiar with the campus which will better equip them to respond quickly in emergency situations.
In response to recent incidents throughout the U.S., the EBR Sheriffí´s Office has partnered with local schools to help with the layout of a safety plan. Similar drills have also been conducted at LSU and Central.
