CHS Football Off to a Fast Start with a 34-21 Victory Over Parkview
The Catholic High football team got off to a fast start to open the 2018 season with a 34-21 victory over crosstown rival Parkview Baptist. The Bears scored two touchdowns on its first two possessions to go up 13-0, but the Eagles closed the gap to 13-7 at halftime. The Bears answered the challenge and came out firing on all cylinders, opening an almost insurmountable 34-7 lead going into the 4th quarter.
The Bears were led by quarterback Cameron Dartez, the WBRZ Channel 2 Fans Choice Player of the Week, who accounted for all five of Catholic’s scores. Dartez threw for 207 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for two scores as well. The CHS defense was led by nose guard Connor Finucane, who made life miserable all night for the Parkview center.
Leading the special teams was corner Jaylin Armwood with a tackle on kickoff coverage and solid play, jamming the Eagles’ gunner on punt return.
The Bears will clash with Zachary, the #2 teams in the most recent LSWA poll, at Memorial Stadium on Friday. Kickoff is set for 7pm. The Bears are the #6 ranked team in the LSWA Class 5A poll.
The two teams are ranked 1-2 in the most recent CrescentCitySports.com poll with the Broncos #1 and the Bears #2. The two teams won state championships in their respective post-season brackets last season.
