CHS French Club Members Attend State Convention
Members of the CHS French Club attended The Louisiana French Club Association (Association Louisianaise des Clubs Francais des Ecoles) convention, which took place in Lafayette from Friday, January 31 until Sunday, February 2.
Friday night participants voted in regional elections and participated in fun icebreakers in groups organized by French levels. Freshman Ryan Haycook was elected as Region 3 representative. Students learned songs and dance moves, led by our state officers, including outgoing Region 3 representative Trey Menville.
Saturday morning attendees watched skits and then went to Vermillionville, where they had a gumbo lunch.
They had the opportunity to danced to Zydeco Grammy winner Chubby Carrier’s show and tourm Vermillionville, an authentic Acadian village, and listened to local culture explained in
French by local “Cajuns” in traditional costume.
Saturday evening students attended a banquet during which Louisiana House representative Stephen Ortego discussed his background in French and new legislative plans to support French in the schools. After, CHS alumni Zach Miller and Corey King served as DJs at the dance.
CHS students returned to Baton Rouge on Sunday morning.
