CHS Freshman Receives Honors at Science and Engineering Fair

Catholic High Freshman Chet Herndon received the U.S. Army Award for Excellence at the Region VII Science and Engineering Fair on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 held at LSU. Herndon placed third in the Behavioral and Social Sciences division.

Chetí´s project was a comparison of on-field stats of SEC Conference Football Games.  The project was an analysis of player actions in team sports and their contribution to game outcomes.  His findings of this analysis is that there are four variables that have a strong influence to the end score í turnovers, passing yards, rushing yards and penalty yards.

“Chet has done a great job on this predictor. It is very well thought out and yet realistic in what it can and cannot predict. I think anyone who follows football would find this quite interesting and could raise a few eyebrows,íñ commented Chetí´s Biology teacher Nick Minvielle.

íÍI liked not only meeting new people but also learning about their projects.  It was a fun experience,íñ commented Herndon.

Middle school and high school students within Region VII including East Baton Rouge Parish, West Baton Rouge Parish, Ascension Parish, Iberville Parish, Pointe Coupee Parish, East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish participated in the Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair.
