CHS Golf Team Captures District 3 Title!
Greystone Country Club in Denham Springs is a golf course known for its tree-lined fairways, fast greens and water hazards. Despite the hurdles presented, the Catholic Bears shot a 305 to capture the Division I, District 3 golf championship on Tuesday. With the district title, CHS advanced to the Division I, Region II tournament on April 25 at Carter Plantation in Springfield.
Zachary finished a distant second with a score of 334. Other full teams scores were St. Amant (366); Dutchtown (374); Live Oak (421); and Baton Rouge High (479). Woodlawn, McKinley, East Ascension, Walker, Denham Springs and Central also participated in the event that saw 41 golfers take to the Greystone course.
Sophomore Johnathan Ellis was the individual winner for the Bears, firing an even par score of 72. Junior Ellis chased teammate and junior Carson Caruso for the entire match. Caruso, in the group ahead of Ellis, shot a 73 to finish second overall. Senior Nick Ashy finished fourth with a 78. Juniors Brayden Seguin (83) and Will Perilloux (84) rounded out the day for the district champions.
“The staff and I are proud of the boys for coming out focused on Tuesday morning,” said head golf coach Pat Dulaney. “Every team around the state is in a survive and advance mindset at this point. It is good to get the win, but even better to move to the Regional round knowing we will have to elevate our game against the New Orleans area programs. I am looking forward to seeing our boys compete again on Tuesday at a nice course like Carter Plantation.”
