CHS Grapplers Chalk Up A Solid Showing
The CHS wrestling team put together a solid showing at the Warrior Open this past weekend at St. Michael High School. The Bears placed ten grapplers in the top three on Saturday with two winning meet titles. Assistant coach Ben DiPalma commented on the Bears efforts at the season’s inaugural meet.”Saturday was a good first meet for us with twelve Bears finishing in the top four. We have a long way to go, but saw good competition with such programs as Jesuit, Airline and Archbishop Shaw.”
Cameron Carpenter (132 lbs.) and Jacob Fereday (182 lbs.) were the meet winners and coach Tommy Prochaska expects them to make runs at individual state titles in Division I this season.
Capturing meet runner-up honors were Luke Romano (106 lbs.), Lance Blanchard (138 lbs.), Jeremy Flieg (145 lbs.) and Patrick Mahoney (285 lbs.). Third place finishers were Hunter Goodson (113 lbs.), Clayton Torres (151 lbs.), Joe Clark (195 lbs.) and Ben Bordelon (220 lbs.). The Bears had two fourth place finishers in Will Clark (182 lbs.) and William DeLaune (285 lbs.).
The wrestling team is back on the mat on Wednesday, November 9, at Live Oak with the opening match scheduled for 7 p.m. in Watson. The Eagles are coming off a 2015-2016 season in which they finished as the state runner-ups in Division II.
