CHS Hoopsters Advance To Semifinals!
The Catholic High Bears will travel to the Burton Coliseum in Lake Charles to play in the Division I semifinals on Thursday, March 8. The Bears will face #2 seed St. Paul’s and tipoff at the Marsh Madness event is set for 1:15 p.m. The winner will play on Saturday night at 6 p.m. at Burton against the winner of Scotlandville and McKinley for the Division I State Championship.
The Bears advanced to the semifinals with a 39-25 win over the St. Augustine Purple Knights from New Orleans. The Catholic League champs gave the Bears all they had, but shutdown defense and a 6-0 run helped extend the lead and put the game out of reach late in the final period. The Bears held the Knights to just 1 of 13 from the field in the fourth quarter and St. Aug’s leading scorer had just 5 points. Mark Cascio credited his team for playing with tremendous effort, working hard enough to out-rebound the opponent, and making their free throws count with a 13-15 tally for the game.
St. Paul’s defeated Brother Martin, 78-66, to advance to the Division I semifinals. The Wolves are 29-6 and are led by Parker Edwards and Devonte Allen.
