CHS Hoopsters Get Big Win On The Road

The St. Amant Gators built a 12-7 lead in the first quarter of Friday night’s 5-5A game, but the Catholic High Bears answered in the second quarter, reversing fortunes and using it to notch a 60-49 win. The Bears outscored the Gators 19-9 in the second quarter and stretched the lead in the second half, countering numerous opportunities for St. Amant. Due to the August floods, the game was played at the East Ascension gym.

Tensley Aldredge led all scorers with 23 points. Hunter Williams and Tyler Mixon scored 11 apiece for the Bears and Travis Brock put in 6 points. Williams knocked down a trio of three point shots for his season high effort.

St. Amant was led by KJ Franklin with 17 points. The Gators’ big nemesis on Friday night was their 15-30 performance at the free throw line. The loss dropped the Gators to 19-10 overall and 3-5 in district.

The 17-12 Bears are back in action at home on Tuesday, February 14, for Senior Night. McKinley visits the Bear Cave with varsity tip off at 7:15 p.m.

Senior basketball players being honored before their final regular season home game are: Tensley Aldredge; Travis Brock; Marshall Etue; Dean Jolly; Austin Lachney; Tyler Mixon; Remy Robert and Matthew Snellgrove.
