CHS Hoopsters Sweep Dutchtown
The CHS varsity basketball team snapped a four game losing streak with a 53-42 win over the Dutchtown Griffins. The victory gave the Bears their first 5-5A win of the season and ran the team’s overall record to 16-8.
CHS’ Toliver Freeman got hot early, hitting consecutive three point shots and a two point field goal to put his team up 8-0 over the Griffins. The Bears played solid defense the remainder of the quarter and held a 10-4 lead going into the second quarter. The Bears were outscored by the visitors from Ascension Parish in the second quarter, but held a 17-13 advantage at intermission. The Bears picked up the pace in the second half and outscored the Griffins 36-29.
Toliver Freeman scored 15 of his game high 24 points in the first half of the Bears’ win. Fellow senior Demarcus Shepard added a season high 15 points for CHS. Grant Sceroler tallied five points, John Ward added four, Brandon Ruth and Tensley Aldridge each had two, and Ethan Treigle added one. Leading scorer for Dutchtown was Neil Caldwell with 10 points.
The freshmen and junior varsity teams also collected wins over Dutchtown for a clean sweep.
The Bears are back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 2, as they travel to face the McKinley Panthers. The varsity tipoff set for 7:15 p.m. The Panthers are tied with East Ascension for the district lead with a 3-0 record.
