CHS Lacrosse Players Participate in Dixie Top 200
Five CHS Lacrosse players accepted invitations to participate in the Dixie Top 200, a lacrosse recruiting showcase in Birmingham, Alabama, this past weekend. Matthew Berdon, Michael Browning, Nick Carville, Evan Fontenot and Alex Perrodin all participated in the three day event.
The showcase was hosted by Lacrosse Academy of Birmingham and had 17 college coaches in attendance to coach and evaluate the participating players for playing at the next level. The event consisted of two sessions of skills coaching by the different coaches, a question and answer session during lunch on Saturday and then three sessions of games. The lunch session cover recruitment, getting better while in high school and how to be a better team player. During the games, each team had two college coaches on the sideline and three to four coaches on the field giving instruction.
The CHS players were excited with what they learned during the sessions. As Carville put it, íÍThe coaching was over the top.íñ
íÍWhere else would I be able to get this level of coaching and play with this many top players,íñ said Browning?
The event had 190 of the top high school players from Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana and Tennessee participating.
The lead coach for the event was Head Coach at Ohio State Nick Myers. Myers brought a positive high energy level to the event. He pushed the idea of having fun while learning new skills and using what was learned in the games and demonstrated positive feedback in all encounters with players. The excitement was obvious while watching the different sessions.
The CHS players were excited about bringing what they learned at the event back to their team. Lacrosse coach Tyler Gray is looking forward to hearing from the players and glad they had the opportunity to participate in such an event.
The CHS lacrosse program starts their Fall Ball season on Monday, Nov. 2, 2015.
