CHS Outscores Rummel in Pre-Season Scrimmage

The Varsity Football team kicked-off the 2015 pre-season last week in scrimmage action versus Archbishop Rummel. The Bears traveled to Metairie to face Rummel, the number 21 ranked team in the country according to MaxPreps, in a battle between two state powers in Class 5A. While the Raiders held the upperhand early in the series format of scrimmage work, the Bears outscored their opponent in the 12-minute quarter, 15-14, to close the contest.

Junior H-back Ben Miles scored on a 13-yard screen pass from senior quarterback Ian Brian to put the Bears on the board in the 12-minute quarter.  Senior linebacker Chase Priest cashed in on an errant center snap with a fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown.  Junior placekicker Parker Fontenot closed the scoring with a 33-yard field goal on the final play of the scrimmage.

The Bears return to the playing field on Friday in the St. Michael Jamboree at Doug Williams Stadium on the campus of the Louisiana Leadership Institute.  Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. with the Catholic B team squaring off against the St. Michael JV.  The varsity jamboree will get underway at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Warriors are coming off of a school-best 9-1 season in 2014 and number two seed in the Division II playoffs.  The Bears return 12 starters from the 2014 district champion squad and look to propel coach Dale Weiner to win number 300 early in the season.
