CHS Provides Free Heart Screenings for Football Team

Catholic High School, in conjunction with Dr. Michael Crapanzano of Pediatric Cardiology Associates Clinic, provided free heart screenings to the members of the CHS football team Saturday, September 15.

Heart screenings for the players took place from noon to 4 p.m.  The screenings tested for a variety of heart abnormalities that could threaten a student athleteí´s health while participating in physical activities. The purpose of the provided screenings was to prevent potential injuries and to ensure the ultimate safety of CHS student athletes.

íÍOur number one concern is the safety of our athletes,íñ commented J.P. Kelley, athletic director at Catholic High School. íÍThis is a great opportunity to protect them from ailments they may be unaware of now that could harm them in the future.íñ

Of the 140-player team, 105 CHS football players took advantage of the provided heart screenings on Saturday.

“It gives me one less thing to worry about,” said senior runningback Khalil Thomas.
Dr. Michael Crapanzano performed  the individual heart screenings along with Dr. Les Hixon, Dr. Michael Brumund and Dr. Wes Davis.

Catholic High School hopes to ultimately open this opportunity to every student athlete at the school.
