CHS Salutes 50 Year Graduates with Dinner

Catholic High School honored its 50-year graduates, the class of 1957, at a reunion on campus Saturday, June 2, 2007.

Also honored were the 60-, 65-, 70- and 75-year graduates from the classes of 1947, 1942, 1937 and 1932. The event was sponsored by the CHS Alumni Association.

The evening began with Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral celebrated by Father Jerry Young ’54.

Participating in the Mass were 1957 class members Anthony J. Pecoraro, Lawrence A. Couvillon, Charles E. Eckert, Raymond G. Post, Bernard Mistretta, Robert L. Cangelosi, Sr., C. Dale Hotard.
Following the Mass, honorees gathered in the Catholic High Centennial Courtyard and the Health & Physical Education Center Plaza for a social.

The school gymnasium was the setting for a steak dinner prepared by the CHS Men’s Club and organized by Rudy Valenciano, Junior Politz and Pete Hymel. Acting as waiters for the evening were members of the Key Club under the direction of Sue Dicharry and Scott Losavio ’95. Brother Barry Landry, SC, CHS principal, served as master of ceremonies and Brother Eldon Crifasi, SC ’39, director of alumni relations, emeritus, led the blessing before dinner. Gene Tullier, CHS president, welcomed the graduates and their guests. C. Dale Hotard ’57 and H. Gayle Hatch ’57 provided reminiscences for the 50-year
graduates.

Commemorative diplomas were presented to the 50-year graduates, and engraved plaques were given to the members of the 60-, 65- and 70-year reunion classes.

This year’s president of the Alumni Association is David Whatley ’74. Glen Randow, Director of Alumni Relations and Katherine Ellis, alumni events coordinator, organized the event.
