CHS Senior, Jason Peters, Selected as Gatorade State Player of the Year

Catholic High School senior, Jason Peters, has been selected as the Gatorade Louisiana Football Player of the Year. Recipients of this award are selected not only for their outstanding athletic performance, but also for meeting high academic-achievement standards while demonstrating exemplary personal character on and off the field.

Peters is the linchpin of a defense that surrendered only 112 yards per game and 1.8 yards per rush during the Bears’ 10-0 regular season. He has recorded 53 tackles, 10 sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries in propelling Catholic (13-0) to the Class 5A state semifinals on December 1.

Peters also maintains a 3.66 GPA and volunteers at both the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store as well as the St. Francis Xavier Day Care center, providing childcare for parents in need.

Peters is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award to be announced in mid-December.
