CHS Soccer Scores A Pair Of Big Wins
The Bear soccer team was 10-2-2 heading into the weekend with matches versus Zachary and Walker. On Saturday evening, the Bears stood at 12-2-2 with victories over Zachary (4-2) and Walker (1-0).
The Bears used an aggressive, attacking offense on Friday night to defeat the Broncos. Daniel Occupati scored two goals, with singles coming from Cole Cazenave and Reece Romero. The loss dropped the Broncos to 6-10-2 with a 26th spot in the power ratings.
On Saturday afternoon, a strong defense was needed to thwart the efforts of the Walker Wildcats on the CHS pitch. The Bears won 1-0 on a Brogan Bourgeois goal with an assist from Ben Ellis. An aggressive and physical Catholic High defense kept keeper Patrick Riley unchallenged for most of the match. Walker is now 9-6-4 and #32 in the power ratings.
“We have played a rigorous schedule and I’m pleased with where we stand after sixteen matches,” said third year CHS coach Josh McReynolds. “We are looking forward to our matches down the stretch and know that our off-season conditioning and weight room work will carry over.”
Looking ahead, the Bears will face McKinley on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at home with a 6 p.m. start. The Panthers make the short drive to Hearthstone Drive with a 6-5 record and 0-3 mark in district play. McKinley dropped its Friday match to Walker, 4-3.
The Bears are now ranked #2 in the Division I power ratings.
