CHS Soccer Team Advances To Quarterfinals With Win Over Northshore
Patrick Mensah got the Bears on the board with a goal in the 34th minute and Eli Weathers tacked on another goal for the visitors as the CHS soccerballers defeated Northshore, 2-0, on Tuesday night. The Bears fended off the 6th seeded Panthers and their organized set pieces and found holes in the home side’s defense to win in the second round and advance to the quarterfinals of the Division I playoffs.
A starting cornerback for the football team, Mensah used his athleticism to score a goal with an assist from Eli Weathers to put the Bears up 1-0. Weathers answered in the match’s 75th minute to give the visiting Bears some breathing room with little time remaining.
“Watching the guys execute our plan and tackle a well-coached Northshore team is rewarding,” said head coach Josh McReynolds who is in his second year as head coach for the Bears. “The staff is so proud of our guys. They have progressed very quickly in the last month and to be in the final eight in the highest division in our state is a testament to their hard work, effort and love of their teammates.”
The Bears will take on Brother Martin in the quarterfinals at home on Monday, Feb. 13. Kickoff is set for 6 PM. Tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
