CHS Soccer Team To Host Brother Martin In Quarterfinal Match Up

The CHS soccer team takes on fellow Brothers of the Sacred Heart school Brother Martin tonight, Feb. 13, at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinal round at Grizzly Field. The Crusaders are the three seed and come in with a 14-3-3 record. The visitors defeated 14 seed Bonnabel, 2-1, in the second round to advance to the match against the Bears.

Brother Martin had a first round bye, courtesy of its three seed, and is 11-2 versus Division I competition on the season. Last season, the Crusaders were the 14 seed and lost to three seed Acadiana in a tight match, 2-1. The Bears were a 12 seed in their magical run to the semifinals last season, defeating St. Amant on the road at “The Pit” and Jesuit at home in the quarters. Once again, a team from District 6 in the New Orleans area visits Grizzly Field and CHS will give them their best shot. Bonnabel, Grace King and Archbishop Rummel are other schools that play solid soccer out of District 6.

The 11th seeded Bears reached the semifinals with a home win against district foe Walker and a road victory over 6th seeded Northshore. The Bears will lean on their soccer program tradition and playing on their home pitch in tonight’s match.

“Brother Martin has played really good soccer against quality competition this season,” said CHS head coach Josh McReynolds. “They are an experienced side that makes few mistakes and cashes in on their opponent’s mistakes. Our passing game must be precise and we must continue to play good defense. I really like the way our guys have attacked our opponents in the playoffs early in the match. We are playing our best soccer of the season and are right where we want to be against Brother Martin.”

The Bears have relied on their physical and fast play down the stretch, a testament to their strength and conditioning program implemented by Sanders Davis. Davis, a 2010 CHS alum best known for his role as the offensive line coach with the football program, is in year two overseeing the soccer strength program and the dividends have been seen in the playoffs the last two years.

Game time is set for 6 p.m. on the turf pitch at Grizzly Field on Monday, Feb. 13.
