CHS Soccer Team To Take on Zachary Broncos
The Soccer team came into Tuesday night’s game (Jan. 19) with Baton Rouge High on a three game win streak. Make it four games, as the Bears demolished the Bulldogs 5-1 on the home pitch. Catholic is now 10-6-1 on the season and ended BRHS’ six match win streak.
The Bears got going early in the match, as Cole Cazenave took a pass from Nick Brookshier and found the back of the net just two minutes into the contest. They kept pressure on the Bulldogs and made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, when Eli Weathers scored off a pass buildup from Matthew Morales and Michael Focht. Cazenave made it 3-0 just four minutes later, scoring off a rebound. The rout was on when Max Trapp scored in the 38th minute and Michael Focht put a penalty kick past the Baton Rouge High keeper just before the whistle to signal intermission to make it 5-0.
BRHS scored their only goal in the 49th minute of the match. Patrick Riley had 6 saves on 7 shots on goal by BRHS. The Bears possessed the ball 54 percent of the time in the match and pressured the Bulldogs with twenty-five shot attempts, seven of those being on goal. The Bulldogs had just 14 shot attempts on the night.
Catholic takes its four match win streak into Friday’s event with Zachary. The Bears meet ZHS at 6pm on Friday, Jan. 22 “on the turf” at Catholic.
