CHS Soccer VS. Denham Springs: Winner Takes District 3 Title
The District 3 Soccer title is riding on tonight’s 6 p.m. match between the host Bears and Denham Springs Yellow Jackets. The contest will be played on the pitch at Grizzly Field.
The Bears come in with a 7-6-4 record and the Jackets sport a 12-3-3 ledger. Both squads are 4-0 in District 3 play. CHS is currently ranked #11 in the latest LHSAA Division I power ratings. The Jackets stand at #5. In the most recent Division I soccer poll, Denham came in at #8 in the state. The Bears were just out of the top ten at #13.
The Bears hope to use their recent win streak and tough schedule as momentum against a strong side of Yellow Jackets tonight. CHS has played four opponents in the top five in the state; seven games against the top 10 in the state; nine contests versus the top 15; and eleven bouts have been against teams in the top 20.
Second year head coach Josh McReynolds expects his charges to come out ready to go from the start. “We are no longer the group that lost 12 starters from last year’s team. It took awhile to establish our identity and find the best eleven and top subs, but our guys have figured it out and fought through adversity,” said McReynolds. “We have played much better in the last few weeks and we have an identity. The guys feel confident about matching up with a very good Denham Springs team.”
