CHS Students Compete In National Quiz Bowl Tournament
Congratulations to CHS students David Culotta, Eli Barbin, Everett Bonner III, Allen Duggar, Kevin Oubre and Stewart Roeling for competing in the 2018 National Academic Quiz Tournament High School National Championship in Atlanta, GA., May 25-27. The CHS team was one of only five teams to represent Louisiana in the tournament.
The High School National Championship (HSNCT) is the National Academic Quiz Tournaments’(NAQT) premier high school event. The tournament is held at the end of each school year and features the top quiz bowl teams from across the United States and the world.
Teams qualify for the HSNCT by their performance at regular-season tournaments using questions supplied by NAQT. Three hundred and fifty-two teams competed in the championship tournament.
The CHS team opened tournament play with a pop culture quiz on Friday night, finishing sixth out of 52 teams. Heading into Saturday and Sunday’s competition, the team participated in 10 preliminary rounds, winning three, and finished ranked 305 in the country. Pretty impressive for a group of young men who organized themselves without a coach and qualified for the national tournament on their first try.
