CHS Swim Team Opens Season With A Statement Win
The CHS swimming Bears opened the regular season with a resounding victory in a six squad meet at Lafayette Crawfish Aquatics. The Bears made a huge splash by scoring 284 points and defeating its closest rival, Zachary, by over 200 points. Zachary finished second with 63 points and host Lafayette was third with 57 points.
CHS finished 1-2-3 in three of the eight individual events and 1-2 in the 200-yard medley relay, the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Mason Nyboer and Daniel Woodruff captured two races for the Bears – Nyboer in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle and Woodruff in the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle. Other winners for CHS were: Mitchell Gillem (50 freestyle); Harrison Say (100 backstroke) and Landon Godso (100 breaststroke).
Veteran coach Doug Logsdon was pleased with how the season started. “The staff was pleased with how our swimmers competed in the season opener. A number of our swimmers posted qualifying marks and showed improvement from last season. They are eager to compete in town at this Saturday’s meet at Crawfish,” said Logsdon.
The Bears will race on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 8 a.m. The home opener will be held at Crawfish Aquatics on Bluebonnet.
