CHS Swim Team To Compete In Division I State Swim Meet
On Friday Nov. 18, the CHS swim team will travel to Sulphur to compete in the LHSAA Division I State Swim meet at SPAR Aquatics Center. Prelims on Friday are set for 4 p.m. and finals on Saturday begin at 3 p.m. The team will be going for its fourth consecutive state championship, fifth in the last six years and sixth overall (2005, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2015).
The Bears are bringing 19 individual swimmers to compete in 32 individual races and three relays. CHS is the only boys team in the meet that has four competitors in every event.
Before the meet begins, seniors Andrew Ford and Will de la Bretonne will be honored as members of the LHSAA Composite All-Academic State team. These two young men have a non-weighted cumulative GPA of 4.0 at Catholic High. When the swimming begins, the Bears will face stiff competition from the Jesuit Blue Jays of New Orleans, Archbishop Rummel from Metairie and St. PaulÕs from Mandeville. The seniors on the team hope to become the first graduating class in the history of CHS to go undefeated for their entire high school careers and capture four state championships. Seniors Lance Michael Rodriguez, Nick Romero, Jonathan Mckeough, Carter Richard, Will de la Bretonne, Braden Nyboer and Jack Lopoo will look to make history and lead the Bears to another state championship.
“The guys have worked hard for this since last January,” said CHS Head Swim Coach Doug Logsdon. “Early morning lifts in the winter and summer, training swims throughout the year, and all the practices and meets leading up to Sulphur will hopefully have a cumulative effect this weekend. We are prepared and ready to get in the pool.”
