CHS Swimmers Take A Road Trip
The CHS swim team dives into the regular season with a road trip to The Splashin’ Dash in Mobile, Alabama, this weekend. Bishop State University, in downtown Mobile, will host the meet at the Fredericka Evans Cultural Center. Prelims begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, with the finals getting underway at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The Bears won the Splashin’ Dash in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014, but missed the meet in 2015 due to schedule conflicts. Coach Doug Logsdon will travel thirty-one swimmers to Mobile. To qualify for the finals on Saturday, a swimmer must be in the top twelve overall and have one of the top four times for their school.
Major competitors for the Bears will be fellow Brothers of the Sacred Heart school McGill-Toolen from Mobile; St. Paul’s from Mobile; James Clemens and Bob Jones High School of Huntsville, Alabama. Bob Jones is the two-time defending 6A state champion in Alabama.
The Bears will look for four scorers in each event with a particular focus on the sprint events. Swimmers to watch for CHS include Carter Richard (50 free/100 fly), Sion Cavana (50 free/100 back), Michael Padial (200 IM/100 breast) and Nick Romero (100 free/100 breast). The Bears will also be looking for freshman Landon Godso and Nick Domingue to qualify for the state meet and add quality depth to an already good lineup.
