CHS Wrestlers Get Big Win Over Live Oak
The CHS wrestling team ignored the change of venue on Tuesday night, and gutted out a quality win over area grappling rival Live Oak. The Bears defeated the visiting Eagles by a tally of 39-33 in the Catholic High gym.
The match was originally scheduled to take place at home plate on the baseball field, but the humid Baton Rouge evening would not cooperate. “We were hopeful the humidity would not be an issue, but the moisture on the mats would not dry out,” said Tommy Prochaska, CHS wrestling coach. “I am proud of our guys for handling the adversity of going from outside to inside and getting a win over one of the better programs in the state in Live Oak.” The win brings the Bears’ record to 2-0 on the season.
This weekend the varsity squad will split and travel to Central and Brusly respectively. “Splitting our team will allow more wrestlers to compete, which helps the staff evaluate more wrestlers and creates depth for our team,” added Prochaska.
The 8th and 9th grade teams will travel to New Orleans and wrestle at Brother Martin.
