CHS Wrestling Begins Season in Warrior Open Classic

The CHS Wrestling Team competed at the 10th Annual Warrior Open on Saturday, November 7 at St. Michael High School.

The following Bears placed in their weight class:

1st Place í Cameron Carpenter 120lb, Nick Danna 195 lbs
2nd Place- Daniel Gunn 126 lbs. Andrew Messina 160 lbs.
3rd Place í Patrick Mahoney Hwt.

The team is back in action on Wednesday, November 11 at 6 p.m. vs. Live Oak High School at Live Oak.

The 2015-2016 season is the 18th as head coach of the Bear grapplers for 1992 alumnus Tommy Prochaska.  Prochaska, who is in year 23 as a coach in the program, is assisted by Ben DiPalma, Class of 2000, and a seven year assistant to Prochaska.  Both are former Catholic High wrestlers.
Prochaska lost mat experience in 2014 state champion and 2015 state runner-up Matthew Mire, along with veterans Josh Matthews, Dominic Dewey and current North Carolina State offensive lineman Aaron Wiltz.  Last year’s squad compiled a healthy 34-3 dual meet record.

This year’s edition will welcome back Cameron Carpenter (120), Daniel Gunn (126), Andrew Messina (160) and Jacob Ferriday (170). Upon completion of the football season, the Bears will enter returners Denver Denison (182), James DeLee (220) and K.J. Wilson (Heavyweight) into their starting lineup.

Prochaska needs 13 dual meet victories to reach the coveted 300 win milestone, a feat captured by football head coach, Dale Weiner, a few weeks back on the gridiron versus Teurlings Catholic.
