CHS Wrestling Team Captures Title at Houston Tournament
The CHS Wrestling team headed west to Houston, Texas, this weekend to compete in the Cypress Ridge High School tournament. At Saturday’s close, the Bears proved the trip wasn’t a vacation as they walked away with the team title. CHS scored 184 points, its closest competitor being Oak Ridge High of nearby Conroe, Texas, with 162.5 points, in a tournament that included 37 schools.
The Bears were led on the mat by Cameron Carpenter, who captured the individual title at 120 pounds. Nick Danna was the runner-up in the 182 pound weight class. The Bears placed seven grapplers in the semifinals at Cy Ridge.
The wrestling team is back on the mat on Monday, Nov. 23, in JV action at East Ascension for 6 p.m. On Tuesday, Nov. 24, the varsity Bears will travel to East Ascension for a dual versus the Spartans. Weekend action takes the Bears on the road to St. Paul’s on Saturday, Nov. 28 for a quad meet. Catholic High will be pitted against St. Paul’s, Hahnville and Rummel beginning at 9:30 a.m.
