Class of 1959 Honored at 50-Year Reunion

Catholic High School honored its 50-year graduates, the class of 1959, at a reunion on campus Saturday, May 16, 2009.

Also honored were the 60-, 65-, 70- and 75-year graduates from the classes of 1949, 1944, 1939 and 1934. The event was sponsored by the CHS Alumni Association.

The evening began with Mass at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Reverend Paul A. McDuffie.

Participating in the Mass were 1959 class members Bobby Comeaux, Jim Holliday, Frank Culotta, Tommy McGuire, Pete Dazzio, Frank Polozola and Pete Boudreaux. Also participating in the Mass were Brother Eldon Crifasi, SC, Kevin Buckley, Phil Watkins, Pete Hirschey, Davis Hotard and Jeff Hotard.

Following the Mass, honorees gathered in the Catholic High Centennial Courtyard and the Health & Physical Education Center Plaza for a social.

The school gymnasium was the setting for a steak dinner prepared by the CHS Men’s Club and organized by Pete Hymel, Junior Politz, Al Wintz and Harry Burton. Acting as waiters for the evening were members of the Key Club, under the direction of Scott Losavio and Taylor Murphy. Brother Barry Landry, SC, CHS principal, served as master of ceremonies and Brother Eldon, director of alumni relations, emeritus, led the blessing before dinner. Gene Tullier, CHS president, welcomed the graduates and their guests. Comeaux provided reminiscences for the 50-year graduates.

Commemorative diplomas were presented to the 50-year graduates, and engraved plaques were given to the members of the 60-, 65- and 70-year reunion classes.

This year’s president of the Alumni Association is David Beach. Glen Randow, director of alumni relations and Barbara Camp, alumni events coordinator, organized the event.
