Coach Dale Weiner Gets 300th Career Win Against Teurlings Catholic
CHS head football coach Dale Weiner captured his 300th career victory on Friday, Oct. 2, 2015, against Teurlings Catholic, 28-14. Weiner is one of only eight coaches in Louisiana history to reach the 300th career win status.
Weinerí´s coaching career began in 1975 as an assistant football coach at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee. He made his way to Catholic High School in 1987 as head football coach for the Bears and is credited with rebuilding the Catholic High football program.
Weiner has built an orange and black legacy among the Catholic High community that will remain for generations to come. Under his 28-year leadership, the Bears have captured 16 District Titles, one State Runner-Up and 265 wins, averaging 9.4 wins per season. Weiner has twice been named State Coach of the Year and has been named District Coach of the Year 14 times. He has had more than 140 athletes continue on to play collegiate football and 11 moved on to the pros. Among other accolades, Weiner has been inducted into the Louisiana Weightlifting Hall of Fame and was most recently inducted into Catholic High Schoolí´s Grizzly Greats Athletic Hall of Fame. Whatí´s more, he has provided the inspiration for many of his players to also choose a career in coaching.
Another of Weinerí´s legacies can be found in his son, Neil Weiner, who is currently the head football coach at Dunham. Some would say íÍlike father í like son,íñ but the truth is that the love of the game and the ability to inspire high school athletes runs in the Weiner family.
“I get to coach my own team on Friday nights. The first thing I do after greeting my wife once my game is over is ask how the Bears did. I’m so grateful that the answer is usually, ‘They Won!’ 300 wins is an incredible accomplishment. I’m proud I got to play for Coach Weiner and work for Coach Weiner, but what I’m most proud of, is getting to call him dad,” said Neil.
Weinerí´s coaching method isní´t just about doing what it takes to win. Ití´s about teaching the boys that they have what it takes to win. Believing in oneí´s self is the first step to victory. And lastly, Weiner coaches that all things are possible with God on your side. After every game, win or lose, you can always find the Bears gathered together on the field while Weiner leads them in prayer.
íÍCatholic High School congratulates Coach Weiner on being one of only eight coaches in Louisiana High School football to reach the 300th win milestone. Coach Weinerí´s football knowledge and coaching expertise have been a tremendous benefit to our community. More importantly, his faith filled life, love of his family and sacrifice for his players creates a model for all of us to follow,íñ said CHS Athletic Director J.P. Kelly.
