Cross Country Team Begins Season With First Place
The 2006 Cross Country team has set high expectations for themselves this year because they returned all members from the 2005 team which finished 5th in the state. Coach Boudreaux is excited to have such a veteran team and the addition of assistant coach Nick Accardo to the staff is a tremendous benefit. Coach Accardo, along with long time assistant Trey Henry, ran varsity cross country at L.S.U. Their college experience will assist the team in many capacities.
The senior members of the team look to lead the way this year. Mark Primeaux, Patrick Walker, Taylor and Austin Mayeux, Joel Raborn, and Mathew Yetman all should be major point scorers for the team. Junior Andrew Ellender and sophomore Seth Maggio are gifted underclassmen that will push the older runners for top finishes.
The team had its first competition this weekend at the St. Michael’s Invitational. A competitive field, which included 2A State Champion Episcopal, 4A State Champion St. Michael, and 5A State Runner Up Brother Martin lined up on Saturday morning. The Bears showed that their hard work in the summer paid off with a first place team finish. M. Primeaux lead the team with an overall 2nd place finish with a time of 16.24. S. Maggio (16.40) and P. Walker (16.53) had strong times and the Bears placed 5 runners in the top 15. Brother Martin came in a distant second with Rummel placing third.
Next up for the team, a trip to Thibodaux to compete in the E.D. White Invitational. Check back here next week to see how the team faired.
