Dominant Bears Start Season 1-0
The 2019 CHS football team opened the season in dominant fashion scoring early and often on their way to a 62-7 home victory over rival Parkview Baptist on Thursday night. After punting on their opening drive, the Bears scored eight consecutive touchdowns to build a 55-0 halftime lead.
“The guys executed really well,” Head Coach Gabe Feritta told the Advocate. “We made very few mistakes and finished the game the way I expected.”
Offensively, six different players reached the end zone. The Bear attack was led by senior running back Josh Parker who rushed for 102 yards on just eight carries. First year starting quarterback Jackson Thomas completed 9 of 14 passes and accounted for three scores, two through the air and one on the ground. Senior Braelen Morgan and junior George Hart both scored twice.
The CHS defense also began the season on a high note as they allowed just 129 total yards to the visiting Eagles. The Bears forced three first half turnovers that all led to points, including a Michael Cerniauskas interception for a touchdown.
Next week, the 1-0 Bears travel to Shreveport to take on defending Arkansas state champion North Little Rock. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. on Friday night.
