Dr. Richard R. Vath To Be Inducted Into CHS Hall Of Fame

Catholic High School is honored to announce the 2017 induction of Dr. Richard R. Vath into the CHS Hall of Fame. Dr. Vath will be inducted at the 33rd Annual Hall of Fame Induction and Founders Banquet at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center on Dec. 7, 2017.

The Catholic High School Hall of Fame honors those men and women whose commitment and dedication to Catholic High School have been exemplary, and whose lives can be an inspiration to the students of CHS.

Dr. Richard R. Vath, President of the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System (FMOLHS) Clinical Network at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (OLOL), is a 1970 graduate of Brother Martin High School in New Orleans. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of New Orleans in 1974 and his Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Medical School in New Orleans in 1977. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency and Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowships at the University of Alabama Medical Center in Birmingham. He returned to Louisiana to the Baton Rouge Clinic where he practiced and served on the executive committee from 1983 until 2006 when he joined the senior leadership team at OLOL.

Vath became the first Medical Director of Quality and Patient Safety at OLOL in 2006. In 2008, while continuing to lead the organization in continuous improvement in clinical quality and patient safety, he was appointed as Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer. He participated in a successful effort with LSU and the state to move LSU graduate medical education programs in Baton Rouge to the OLOL campus by 2013 and remains committed to the development of Our Lady of the Lake as a stronger academic medical center. He was also selected by the Catholic Health Association of the United States to serve on their national board from 2010-2016. In 2015, Vath was named senior vice president and chief clinical transformation officer by FMOLHS.

Vath has been very involved in his church parish and at Catholic High School where his three sons attended. He served as President of Our Lady of Mercy School Board, Parish Council President, and has been part of the Confirmation Team and RCIA lecturer for years at OLOM. Vath and his wife, Linda, also served as the PAGE 13 chaircouple.

When his sons attended Catholic High School, he became part of the retreat team and remained active as a senior retreat adult leader for a number of years. He has served on the Catholic High School Board of Directors for 15 years.

He is married to Linda C. Vath and has three sons, all Catholic High School graduates: Richard ’95, Michael ’98, and Stephen ’01; and four grandchildren.
