Eight CHS Students Attend Boys State

Eight CHS students attended Louisiana Boys State June 22 – 28 at Northwestern State University.  Approximately 400 Boys State delegates attended the summer leadership and citizenship program sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxillary.

Attending Boys State were Ethan Barbin, Shane Martin, Brett Vidrine, Julien Bourgeois, Blaine Bonis, James Isacks, Josh Pickell and Parker Caulfield.

The boys were assigned a city where they were tasked with creating a History, Action Plan Budget and Model of their city.  Their overall goal was to boost their city’s economy by 15% over a 20 year period.  They also had the opportunity to run for city and parish offices.  Ethan Barbin was elected Parish President and Josh Pickell and Julien Bourgeois were each elected mayor of their city.  Pickell’s team received 2nd place for their city project.

“Boys State was a great experience.  Although we did not get much sleep, I would do it again in a heartbeat!  I enjoyed branching out and meeting new people,” commented Josh Pickell.
