Football Bears Defeat Teurlings Catholic, 34-7

The Bears raced out to a 20-0 lead early in the game, survived a middle of the game push by Teurlings Catholic, and held on for a convincing 34-7 win.  CHS upped its record to 4-1 and is now No. 2 in the mid-season power rankings released by the LHSAA.  The Bears are also No. 8 in the latest LSWA Class 5A poll.

Cameron Dartez threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns to win Offensive Player of the Week award honors.  The junior signal caller threw no interceptions against the Rebels.

Preston Stafford booted two field goals, was perfect on four extra points and kicked five touchbacks for the Special Teams Player of the Week award.

Defensive Player of the Week accolades went to Patrick Mensah.  The senior corner had an interception, two tackles and played well in coverage.  He also added 55 yards in returns for the Bears.

The Bears open district play on the road vs. Class 5A’s No. 10 team in the St. Amant Gators.  The game will be at The Pit on the campus of the elementary school in St. Amant.  The Gators are 5-0 and recently beat defending 3A state champion Lutcher and 3A power St. James.  Kickoff is for 7 p.m. and Bear fans are asked to arrive early and to expect a great high school football atmosphere on Friday night, one that will include cannon fire!
