Football Bears Fall to Zachary Broncos, 41-26

The Bears dropped a hard fought contest to Class 5A’s 5th ranked team Zachary, 41-26.  Senior quarterback Ian Brian passed for 295 yards and Clyde Edwards-Helaire accounted for 217 all-purpose yards in the loss. 

Players of the Game versus Zachary were:

Blair Bogan – the senior wide receiver had five receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown versus the Broncos.  Bogan also had a solid night blocking on the perimeter against Bronco defensive backs. 

Chase Priest – the senior linebacker collected nine tackles versus the Broncos, six primary tackles and three assists.  Priest also had a sack for the Bears.

Special Teams 
Parker Fontenot – the junior placekicker converted both field goal attempts of 37 yards, which accounted for the Bears point total in the first half. Fontenot was 2 for 2 on PATs.

The Bears are back in action on Friday night when they travel to the Lake Charles area to face 1-1 Sam Houston.  The Broncos defeated St. Louis Catholic in their 2015 debut, but bowed to LaGrange in week two. 

Sam Houston returns 11 starters from their 2014 squad, which went 6-5 and lost to 5A power West Monroe in the first round of the playoffs.  The Broncos’ offense is led by running back Trevantei Thompson, a returning all-district player, who rushed for 1,186 yards and 14 touchdowns a year ago.  The gigantic offensive line returns four starters, including four Broncos that weigh 275 plus. 
The defense returns four starters and is led by 6’2 corner John Woodson Hays and linebacker Logan Miller, both seniors.

Friday’s matchup will be the first ever meeting between the Bears and Broncos which will take place on the campus of Sam Houston High School in Moss Bluff. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
